Everyone else would write the housewarming. Smith writes the errand before the housewarming. That asymmetry is the whole reason to keep watching.
Treating a mother-visit and party-prep as the entire substance of an episode is a Reichardt move done at TV scale, which I respect, but the premise as described is gentler than it is gripping. Modest by design.
Mother-visit-and-party-prep as full episode substance, not transitional beat — that valuation choice is the series's whole proposition. Domestic micro-realism by design.
