Every year on December 25th, a man listens again to the answering-machine recording that changed his life forever. The joyful, hopeful voices of his wife and daughter contrast with the tragic reality of what unfolded that night.

It's formally restrained to the point of restraint becoming the whole point—which, fine, but the premise does the emotional heavy lifting and the film just sits there letting it work, when a real contrarian move would be to *complicate* that answering machine moment instead of genuflecting to it.
Navarro understands the classical economy of grief: a single ritual, a fixed audio artifact, the space between hope and aftermath held in elegant suspension—this is the kind of structurally precise short that builds its argument through formal discipline rather than narrative exposition.
The choice to anchor everything to the answering machine recording—letting those untouched voices do the narrative work while the image dwells on the man's face—is the move that makes this work; lesser filmmakers would've needed voiceover or flashback, but Navarro trusts the listener's ear.
