Aeranger does the thing where it takes mythology seriously instead of winking at the camera, which is either bold or exhausting depending on your tolerance for earnest sci-fi — I found myself respecting the refusal to undercut its own premise even when the execution got shaky.
This is precisely the kind of formally ambitious short that sits within a lineage of speculative cinema concerned with deep time and causality; the decision to hold ancient and present moments in conversation through mythic rather than narrative logic shows real curatorial instinct.
The singular choice here is the sound design's refusal to distinguish between the alien arrival and present-day consequence — one continuous hum that collapses millennia into a single acoustic space — which does almost all the thematic work the runtime can't quite carry on its own.
