Border-patrol thriller that pivots into first-contact sci-fi is exactly the kind of genre mugging that shouldn't work but does—takes the most predictable chase setup and asks 'what if the real danger wasn't the one behind you?' and suddenly you're watching something nobody else would've greenlit.
Raghavan's structural gambit—the tonal rupture between terrestrial thriller and cosmic horror—sits uneasily in the tradition of social-realist sci-fi, and while the formal ambition is evident, the execution struggles to earn the seismic shift it attempts.
There's a single moment where the sound design drops out and we hear the woods differently, and that choice—that decision to let silence become the tell—reframes the entire chase as something other than what we thought we were watching, and that's where the whole film clicks into place.
