Two aspiring filmmakers exploit their aunt's terminal cancer to shoot an Oscar-bait drama — a meta-comedy about the commodification of suffering.

The scouts
A film where two guys try to make an Oscar-bait cancer movie while an actual cancer patient watches them fumble it — the meta-layer is the entire ethical wound.
Burke is smart enough to use the meta-comedy wrapper to sneak in something genuinely affecting — the joke about exploitation eventually becomes indistinguishable from the thing it's mocking.
Burke casts his actual chemo-undergoing aunt in a meta-fiction about exploiting her chemo — Adaptation-tier reflexivity from a micro-budget. The ethics are messy, which is exactly the point.
