It's respectful, which is usually where I tune out — but there's something genuinely strange about letting Inuit voices and songs carry the entire weight of a creation myth without letting Western narrative logic take the wheel, and that refusal is quietly radical.
Three directors moving in concert to channel oral tradition through animation, respecting both the epistemological weight of the source and the formal constraints of the form itself — this is lineage work, films in dialogue with ethnographic cinema and Indigenous media sovereignty at once.
The decision to privilege the song — to let the human voice and rhythm dictate pacing rather than chasing visual momentum — transforms what could've been a pretty illustrated story into something that actually breathes like memory.
