Everyone expects the seduction narrative to go one way, but Tafdrup pulls the rug out by making the real tension *internal*—a kid recognizing something in an adult that terrifies him because it's also in himself. It's queasy and brilliant precisely because it refuses the easy outrage.
The restraint here is surgical: a summer-house chamber piece that inherits from the Scandinavian tradition of moral ambiguity while engaging seriously with queer coming-of-age cinema. Tafdrup's mise-en-scène creates distance even in intimacy, letting the audience do the moral work rather than the film.
What makes this land is the single choice to keep the camera observational rather than intimate—we're always slightly outside Carsten's moment of recognition, which forces us to read it in his body instead of being told what to feel, and that estrangement is everything.
