As danger looms over the Old Oak and its inhabitants, Leon, a grumpy badger, refuses to abandon his beloved book collection. When an unwelcome guest disturbs his peace and stirs childhood memories, he is forced to reflect on what really matters most.

The scouts

A badger guards his books while the world burns—cute premise, but it plays it entirely straight, and there's nothing here subversive enough to justify the sentimentality. The film wants you to feel the weight of choices, but it never actually *disturbs* you.

Felix

Jakubowska situates this firmly in the European art-animation tradition—there's a formal restraint and compositional care here that recalls Tomm Moore's spatial intelligence, and the restraint in the climax shows real maturity in knowing what not to show.

The specificity lives in the sound design: those pages turning become the language of Leon's whole interior life, and when that familiar childhood sound arrives, it does the emotional work the plot only hints at—one sonic choice reframes everything.
