The scouts
A roof standoff between brothers facing state violence is exactly the premise every other scout would greenlight without blinking—which is precisely why it doesn't interest me; there's nothing here that upends the crime-drama grammar we've seen a hundred times.
The tonal restraint is evident—melancholy over melodrama, contemplation over catharsis—and there's a clear lineage to the Dardenne brothers' moral precision, though at two minutes the film barely has time to establish the formal argument it's attempting.
Two minutes is brutal, but Choueib's holding the camera on the brothers' faces through that final choice—letting the gesture breathe instead of cutting away—transforms what could've been a plot point into something that actually lives in the body; that's the decision that works.
