It's a grief film dressed up in experimental language, which is fine, but I'm not sure the premise does anything a hundred other elegies haven't already done—just slower and quieter, which isn't the same as weirder.
Esperanza constructs a formal architecture of absence where the house becomes the primary actor; the deliberate fade to darkness echoes the structural rigor of structural cinema and memory-work in the essay-film tradition, a considered formal choice that earns its melancholy.
The decision to let the space itself narrate rather than the voice feels almost invisible, but that's the skill—the editing rhythm that decides how much light to steal in each cut is what transforms a simple premise about loss into something that actually lands in the chest.
