Directed by Roman Arriola

A peppy young wizkid invents a mysterious device that will 'change the world' — only to slam into a wall he never prepared for: endless cold calls from telemarketers and disinterested gatekeepers.

The premise is a perfect inversion — a world-changing device neutered not by physics or ethics, but by the most banal, quotidian hell imaginable: being stuck in phone trees. Everyone else would've played it straight sci-fi; Arriola just lets the absurdity sit there, unflinching.

Felix

A cleanly executed inversion of the inventor-hero arc, though the film's comedy-deadpan register places it deliberately outside the lineage of formally ambitious shorts — it's consciously low-register, which is the choice, but limits its resonance beyond the premise.

Margot

The decision to let every rejection land in real time, with minimal music or editorial flourish, is what sells it — the cuts just hold on the character's face as each gatekeeper dismisses him, and that restraint transforms a one-liner into actual pathos.

A great little film.

Shows how, without the right connections, it's near impossible to get new innovations out into the world.
