The scouts
A girl wakes in a meadow, finds peace, meets another girl, world tips over — sounds like every twee fantasy short ever made, which is exactly why Droguet's restraint here is almost offensive in how it refuses to explain itself.
The film's formal architecture sits comfortably within the pastoral-disrupted lineage, but Droguet's two-minute constraint forces a precision in the encounter that recalls the mythic economy of Miyazaki without imitating his visual language.
That mysterious girl isn't cute or cryptic in the expected way — there's a single moment of eye contact or gesture that recontextualizes everything about Jadis's serenity, and it's that one choice, not the premise, that makes the whimsy collapse into something genuinely unsettling.
