The scouts
A shadow puppet hunting a child through fabric reality is genuinely unsettling premise work, but the execution plays it safer than the setup deserves—it's got the weird bones everyone else would reject, yet doesn't quite commit to the subversion.
Alameda demonstrates formal control in the transition between dimensional spaces and a clear lineage to stop-motion surrealism (Švankmajer echoes), though the two-minute constraint prevents the kind of sustained spatial logic that would elevate this into the conversation.
The decision to animate the shadow as a tangible predator rather than metaphorical threat—that single tonal choice transforms what could be whimsical into genuinely dread-soaked, and on a micro-budget that specificity of vision is everything.
