The scouts
Boxleitner commits to a single spatial constraint—the stairwell, the descent—and wrings genuine dread from repetition and claustrophobia, which is admittedly smart, but it lands somewhere between elevated home-invasion thriller and a Twilight Zone riff that's been done better.
A disciplined exercise in suspense architecture with clear debts to Polanski and early Haneke; the formal restraint and measured pacing mark this as a work aware of its lineage, even if it doesn't quite achieve the formal innovation those influences demand.
The sound design choice—what Boxleitner *doesn't* underscore during the descent—creates a vacuum of dread that makes the few moments of audio intrusion land with uncanny force; it's a textbook example of a single, confident technical decision that elevates modest means into something genuinely unsettling.

Downstairs, (directed by Lee Boxleitner), was an official selection at Screamfest 2014. The short film follows a foolhardy night security guard who ignores the warnings and ventures alone into the basement of the building.
