Sight-restoration narratives are basically the comfort food of arthouse cinema—so either Szaja found a genuinely twisted angle here, or this is exactly the kind of earnest sensory-awakening piece that makes me itch. I'm betting it's the latter, which means it's not for me.
Szaja's formal restraint in rendering sensory overwhelm—the measured pacing, the deliberate sound design—situates this squarely in the phenomenological essay tradition; it's quiet work that knows its lineage to Bresson and Kiarostami.
Two minutes is ruthless, and whatever choice—a specific sound layering, a camera movement, a held frame—carries the weight of Anna's disorientation will either crystallize the whole thing or collapse it; I need to see which.
