El ataque de los robots de nebulosa-5
2008 · 6m · Spain
Directed by Chema García Ibarra
Genres: drama, experimental, sci-fi
Tones: contemplative, dark, surreal
A young disabled boy calmly explains why and how almost everyone will soon die. Between his fixed stares at a changing sky and a voiceover scanning everyday life for signs of the coming apocalypse, the film views his inner world through the imagery of classic science fiction.

The scouts
García Ibarra yanks apocalypse prophecy away from the bombast machine and drops it into the mouth of a disabled kid staring at the sky—nobody else would dare marry sci-fi genre imagery to this kind of intimate, unsettling intimacy, and it shouldn't work, but it absolutely does.
The film's formal restraint—fixed frames, measured voiceover, the deliberate refusal of spectacle—situates itself against the maximalism of its genre ancestors, a considered dialogue with science fiction tradition that prioritizes philosophical unease over visual rupture.
That unwavering camera fixed on the boy's gaze while the voiceover catalogs mundane collapse is the single decision that makes this work: by refusing to cut away or ornament the stillness, García Ibarra forces the apocalypse into the space between his eyes and the sky.
Reviews
