García takes the most canonical horror source material imaginable and just... animates it straight, which is either the boldest possible move or the safest one, and honestly I'm still not sure which — but the formal restraint keeps pulling me back.
A masterclass in adapting literary psychology to the frame: García inherits Poe's claustrophobic interior monologue through animation, letting the medium's graphic precision trap us inside the killer's deteriorating mind in ways live-action could never achieve with such formal control.
The entire film hangs on the sound design choice to make the heartbeat escalate from objective rhythm into subjective hallucination — it's the singular decision that transforms a faithful adaptation into something that *feels* like madness rather than just depicting it.
