Everyone's waiting for the subversive twist on obsessive fandom, but Monzón commits to something weirder—he just lets tenderness win, lets Drac's devotion to Miuka's devotion to Almodóvar sit there without irony, and somehow that refusal to wink at the audience becomes the most genuinely strange move in the room.
Monzón positions this intimate study in direct conversation with Almodóvar's own obsessions with female desire and artistic devotion, and the formal restraint—the way the camera holds on small gestures rather than chasing emotional crescendos—shows a filmmaker aware of the lineage he's entering.
The whole film pivots on the decision to shoot Miuka's photography practice not as montage or inspiration-porn, but as unglamorous labor—Drac assists, Miuka adjusts light, nothing sings—and that choice to let the work be mundane and necessary is what makes their love story actually land instead of just perform.
