The scouts
A horror film that weaponizes family reunion awkwardness and Arctic estrangement into genuine metaphysical dread—Echeverría refuses to let you know if Silvia's seeing demons or just the slow horror of being a stranger to her own blood, which is so much more unsettling than picking a side.
The formal restraint here is surgical: Echeverría situates the uncanny within domestic space using negative space and what we don't quite see, placing it in a lineage of psychological horror that trusts the viewer's unease over spectacle.
The entire film pivots on Echeverría's decision to keep the camera static and observational while Silvia becomes increasingly untethered—that formal distance between her mounting panic and the world's indifference is the film, and it costs almost nothing except complete compositional discipline.
