Two minutes of friends walking and laughing—sounds like the most boring premise ever, and it almost is, except Clavel knows exactly how to dissolve the line between memory and present until you can't tell which laugh is real, which is the problem.
Clavel situates herself in a lineage of experimental portraiture that values duration and repetition as form; the echo structure recalls Valeska Grisbach's patient observation, while the 2-minute constraint forces a precision most filmmakers waste 15 minutes learning.
The decision to loop or nearly-loop the laugh—to let it hover between singular moment and eternal recurrence—does the thematic work that could've taken ten pages of script, and on a two-minute budget, that's everything.
