A man lives as a recluse in a dark cellar, a cardboard bag over his head that he never removes. When he finally decides to go outside, he must face the crowd.

The scouts
A man in a cardboard bag as existential comedy—Vernière gets the absurdity most scouts would iron out, and refuses to let you know if you're supposed to laugh or squirm, which is exactly the point.
The premise trades in Buñuelian surrealism and body horror, but the execution needed more formal precision to earn its two minutes; the metaphor arrives too easy, the composition too functional.
That cardboard bag is doing all the heavy lifting—it's at once prop, character, and visual joke—but it's the decision to keep cutting back to the muffled sound of his breathing that makes the absurdity land with weight instead of gimmick.
