Entre nous le vide
2026 · 2m
Directed by Jérémie Antocicco
Tones: contemplative, melancholic, tender
In a mountain chalet, Mathilde and Romain see their relationship go out over the course of a day, haunted by the previous night's argument, as a void settles between them and Mathilde no longer feels looked at, nor desired.

Two minutes of people not looking at each other in a chalet sounds like every Criterion couple's therapy scene everyone's already dissected—Antocicco's doing something with the void, sure, but the premise is almost aggressively legible, and I'm left waiting for the film to break its own spell.
Antocicco situates this squarely in the lineage of Haneke and early Kiarostami—the formal restraint of watching desire drain through negative space and the unseen previous argument is the real architecture here, a film that trusts editing and framing to do the emotional labor other directors would render explicit.
The choice to keep the argument *off-screen* and let it haunt the present tense through glances and body positioning is what elevates this from journal-entry to craft—there's a decision about what not to show that makes the two minutes count like twenty.
