The scouts
Expected a self-aware meta-doc about the impossibility of objective journalism during displacement; instead got something sincere and unguarded, which is somehow more radical than the ironic take everyone else would've pitched.
Bassal inherits the observational tradition of intimate war documentaries—Kiarostami's proximity, the Maysles' unflinching eye—but the choice to center his own family rather than maintain distance complicates the form in ways that reward formal attention.
The decision to let the camera linger on his family's mundane packing, their silences, their arguments—refusing the dramatic arc or explanatory voiceover—transforms what could've been activist testimony into something that breathes, where exhaustion and love become the actual story.
