The scouts
A intergenerational stamp-collecting story sounds like the most aggressively wholesome premise imaginable, and yet Pan commits so fully to the tenderness that it almost becomes subversive—though I'm not sure that saves it from being exactly what it appears to be.
The film sits comfortably in a lineage of intimate family portraiture, and its two-minute constraint allows for the kind of distilled emotional clarity that longer coming-of-age narratives often dilute; the restraint itself is the form.
What elevates this from greeting-card sentiment is the decision to let silence and the tactile weight of the stamps themselves do the emotional work—Pan trusts the objects and the space between glances more than she trusts narration or score, and that faith in subtraction is what makes it land.
