Corporate employee Steven has a terrible weekend — his girlfriend dumps him by voicemail — and when he answers the Monday-morning question "How was your weekend?" honestly, the office falls off its axis into blood-dripping horror.

A corporate mundanity that flips into genuine body horror the moment someone tells the truth—this is exactly the kind of stupid-premise-executed-perfectly that makes people uncomfortable in the best way. The absurdist escalation resists every instinct to resolve into neat allegory, which is why it actually *means* something.
Banfield understands the lineage of office-as-purgatory (Kafka through Lynch) and executes a formal inversion: the grotesque intrudes not through atmosphere but through the simple act of honesty, a structural choice that recalls the moral horror of early Cronenberg. The restraint before the rupture is what makes the gore land.
The real invention here is tonal—holding the flat, neutered affect of corporate small talk while the world literally tears open around it; that dissonance between Steven's voice and what we're seeing is the decision that makes a ten-minute premise breathe like a feature.
Reviews
I really enjoyed the surreal nature of How Was Your Weekend? because it takes an attitude that is so real in the workplace and ratchets it up to 11. Both the comedy and horror are quite effective, which is extremely difficult to pull off.
