The scouts
A quiet study of displacement that refuses the obvious immigrant-return drama—instead it lingers on the absurd cognitive friction of driving on the wrong side, which somehow becomes the perfect metaphor for not quite fitting anywhere. It's too slight for most scouts, which is exactly why it works.
Caballero situates this within a lineage of intimate European cinema that privileges correspondence and memory over plot; the formal restraint—5 minutes, minimal dialogue, the careful staging of anticipation—recalls the epistolary tradition in miniature.
The entire film turns on that single detail of Ana's muscle memory refusing to adapt—a driving error becomes the emotional architecture, and in that constraint Caballero finds something tender and specific that a bigger budget would've softened into sentiment.
