What Texier does here is genuinely transgressive — using Xiu Xiu's already uncomfortable Twin Peaks deconstruction as a launchpad for performance art that refuses to aestheticize Laura Palmer's suffering. Briche's presence transforms the source material.
Xiu Xiu's Twin Peaks album, French director, gender-fluid Laura Palmer. I'm interested in spite of myself — the casting genuinely adds something Lynch didn't have.
Florent Texier filters Laura Palmer through Stanislas Briche's gender-fluid physicality — Xiu Xiu's Twin Peaks album already a strange object, and this video adds a layer Lynch never approached. Risky and largely successful.
