The scouts
A two-minute ambush that weaponizes casual misogyny into literal nightmare fuel—the kind of premise that makes you furious you didn't think of it first, and furious the film exists, which is exactly the point. Viger's refusal to let the conversation stay theoretical, dragging it kicking into surrealist horror, is the move cowards avoid.
Viger positions this squarely in the lineage of feminist horror cinema—Kusama, Eggers—but the compression into two minutes risks sacrificing the tonal precision those traditions demand; the dream rupture lands harder than the setup deserves, which suggests craft still settling into its own conviction.
The decision to keep the dialogue banal and almost deadpan while the visual grammar silently darkens underneath is what sells the crescendo—one choice of restraint in the performance and you'd lose the violence of that nightmare cut entirely, and Viger holds that line.
