Everyone expects the abuse narrative to climax in catharsis or revenge; instead Aisemberg just lets the kid get flattened again, which is bleaker and more honest than the redemption arc we're trained to want.
This sits squarely in the lineage of Haneke and the Dardenne brothers—restrained formal language applied to intimate suffering—and the editing discipline never lets sentiment soften the structural cruelty of the premise.
The camera's refusal to look away during the confession scene, holding on the boy's face while adults speak over him, is the entire film; that single choice of framing makes the powerlessness feel anatomical rather than narrative.
