It's a feel-good immigrant-orchestra doc that plays exactly the notes you'd expect—inspiring teacher, struggling kids, triumphant concert—and I'm genuinely annoyed at how little interest I have in subverting it.
Villavicencio and Liu construct this with the formal sophistication of a classical performance itself: the interplay between individual student moments and ensemble practice, the visual grammar of hands and instruments, builds toward something that understands its own lineage in the tradition of cinema-about-music as much as music itself.
The decision to let long stretches breathe without score—just the raw sound of students learning, failing, recalibrating—creates this almost unbearable intimacy that no budget could manufacture; it's purely editorial discipline.
