A family of Arctic foxes learns to cope when they discover one of their number is literally fading away.

The premise is genuinely unsettling—a family member literally vanishing—but it gets sanded down into something too earnest and sentimental; the film plays it safe when the weird metaphor demanded to stay strange.
Nerland works squarely in the tradition of Nordic animation's meditative humanism, and the formal restraint here—the negative space, the muted palette—recalls a lineage of films that trust silence over explanation.
The decision to animate the fading fox not as a ghost or absence but as a physical degradation of the character model itself—progressively translucent, incomplete—does more emotional work than the script could ever accomplish alone.
