Iman Dimalanta, a 21-year-old lymphoma survivor, recounts the cancer experience she chronicled in her journal, moving through agony, relief, laughter, and loss with a bright, uplifting humor. Now in the healing stages of treatment, she reflects on losing friends, crying herself to sleep, and learning to keep things light.

The scouts
This is exactly the kind of earnest, uplift-through-adversity doc that festivals eat with a spoon, which is precisely why it doesn't interest me—Maleen's handling is too assured, too formally competent, and the humor lands exactly where you expect it to, which means it lands nowhere.
Maleen's directorial restraint in letting Dimalanta's own voice and journal excerpts carry the emotional architecture shows real understanding of the documentary form; it's a formally considered portrait that respects both subject and viewer intelligence, situating itself firmly in the lineage of first-person testimony done right.
The decision to let Dimalanta's own handwriting and journal pages move across the screen—sometimes obscuring, sometimes framing her face—transforms what could be a standard recovery narrative into something tactile and intimate, making the viewer complicit in witnessing rather than observing.
