A sci-fi western with a luminous alien sidekick should be gloriously weird, but instead it settles for whimsy—the premise promises subversion and lands on greeting-card sincerity, which is exactly the kind of missed opportunity that puts me to sleep.
Game and Aguilar situate themselves in a lineage of animated fables that marry genre codes (western + sci-fi) with moral fables, and the formal restraint of the animation itself—what's *not* shown—carries real mythic weight in the tradition of stop-motion allegory.
The decision to make the luminous creature non-verbal and let the sound design do the emotional heavy lifting transforms what could've been a stock sidekick into something that actually *breathes*—that's where the craft lives, and why this 9 minutes feels earned rather than cheap.
Reviews
The sci-fi world building and visual design is so unique and vivid, but it's also the heartfelt story that makes this worthwhile.
