Trapped in a minimalist, oppressive mental space, Paula tries to reach beyond an imaginary glass barrier, but every attempt at liberation becomes a struggle against shadows that are her own resistance to change.

Mental Loop does the thing everyone says experimental shorts should do but rarely does—it actually makes the internal feel claustrophobic rather than just *looking* weird. The shadow-as-resistance inversion is clever, but it's almost too legible; I wanted it to resist interpretation harder.
There's a lineage here—Cocteau's mirror-logic, early Lynch's psychological geometry—and the film understands its debt to that tradition of the psyche as spatial trap. The minimalism reads as formally intentional rather than budgetary, which matters.
That glass barrier stays perfectly still while Paula moves around it, and that single choice—keeping the obstacle static instead of having it shift or crack—makes the whole metaphor land; it's the difference between depicting struggle and *feeling* it.
