A mute acrobat's rise and downfall plays out through a non-linear chain of memories and objects in a circus setting, told with tactile stop-motion puppets.

A mute protagonist in a circus—sounds like twee indie comfort food, but Infuso's non-linear object logic is genuinely perverse, fragmenting the rise-and-fall into something closer to a fever dream than a redemption arc. I didn't expect to be this engaged by stop-motion sentiment.
Infuso situates himself in a lineage of tactile, memory-based animation that traces back through Czech puppet cinema and into contemporary experimental practice—the non-linear structure echoes both Eisenstein's montage philosophy and the lyric essay form, a formally ambitious compression of a full tragic arc into nine minutes of exquisite material craft.
The choice to make the acrobat mute and let the puppets carry the entire emotional weight is what makes this work—it forces every physical gesture, every subtle joint articulation, every interaction with a found object to do the storytelling, and the restraint never breaks.
Reviews
