Craig trusts the juxtaposition entirely — no narration, no title cards explaining the argument, just the cut itself doing the work of cultural critique. In under four minutes, the Chaplin title becomes a complete thesis statement about how much has changed and how little.
Found-footage essay at under four minutes, half a million views, Vimeo Staff Pick. Fine — but the Sans Soleil comparison is doing a tremendous amount of unearned lifting. It's a mood piece dressed as an argument.
Ben Craig builds his argument entirely from found footage — editing as sole directorial instrument. The Sans Soleil/Marker lineage in essay-film mode, smaller scale but real method.
