At Friendship Park, a unique meeting place along the US–Mexico border, family members and loved ones from both countries can see and speak to each other through a meshed fence, but they cannot touch.

The scouts
Everyone expects a border doc to rage; Gabbert just sits with the mesh and lets the silence do the work—which is either restraint or avoidance, and honestly I'm not sure which yet.
This is the rare documentary that understands itself as a monument to a specific threshold—the framing, the duration of the gaze, the refusal to editorialise—it's formally precise in ways that reward repeat viewing and serious argument.
The choice to keep the fence always in frame, turning it from barrier into texture, into the actual subject rather than obstacle, is the move that makes twelve minutes feel like an architecture rather than footage.
