The scouts
A couple dreams in a rental apartment—sounds like every indie romance ever made, until you realize there's nothing subversive here at all, just tender contemplation, which is exactly why most people will find it lovely and I'll find it forgettable.
De Linares situates this quietly within the Spanish social realist tradition, letting the modest space and the couple's careful hope carry the weight of economic precarity without ever stating it—formally restrained in the best sense.
The entire film turns on how the camera holds the apartment itself—patient, almost reverential—transforming what could be a generic 'new beginning' premise into something about the weight of aspiration in a single room.
