Everyone wants to make the feel-good development doc; Rubbo and Howells go the other way and let the messy reality—the friction, the unintended consequences—sit there without resolving it, which is genuinely rare and uncomfortable in a way most shorts won't dare.
This is observational documentary working in the tradition of direct cinema, but with a curatorial restraint that lets the contradiction between intention and outcome breathe—the formal choices (what to show, what to withhold) are doing the argument, not a voiceover.
The decision to let the Ghanaian voices and silences carry the film's skepticism rather than impose interpretation from above is the entire film, and it's the move that transforms what could've been didactic into something that actually trusts the audience to think.
