The scouts
A vengeful dog ghost demanding an apology from an influencer—it's absurd enough to work, and Wippell leans into the obscenity of it without winking, which is exactly what separates genuine subversion from Netflix dark comedy pastiche. The film treats pet influencer culture and digital exploitation with the same unsentimental horror usually reserved for actual atrocities, and that tonal fearlessness is rare.
Wippell positions this within the lineage of social-media satire and supernatural revenge, executing both registers with formal control—the intercutting between the influencer's performed grief and the spirit's manifestation creates a sharp formal argument about authenticity and performance.
The singular choice here is playing the haunting completely straight while the premise is deliberately ridiculous—no mugging, no deflection—which forces the audience to confront their own discomfort with the film's real target instead of laughing it away, and that restraint on an 11-minute budget is what makes it sting.

*Obey* is dark, twisted, and hilarious (that BITCH! button will live in your head, rent-free).
