Plot is basically 'girl needs lotion' and that's exactly why it works. Most shorts strain for meaning; this one trusts a sunburn to do the heavy lifting and lets the desert weirdos write their own dialogue.
A sunburn quest movie loose enough to let Palm Springs improvise — Tangerine-meets-sun-bleached-Miranda-July has real charm, even if the picaresque mode is well-worn.
A sunburn quest movie shot loose enough to let Palm Springs improvise its own scenes — desert pissing, casino frolicking, sucker punch. That commitment to drift is the Tangerine lineage done right.
