The scouts
A sincere conservation doc about an endangered animal—exactly the kind of well-intentioned, consensus-friendly film that puts me to sleep. There's nothing here that subverts the wildlife documentary formula or makes me question why I'm watching.
Ijaz situates this within a long lineage of intimate nature filmmaking, and the contemplative pacing shows formal discipline, but it doesn't quite achieve the visual or editorial distinctiveness that separates a memorable short from a competent one.
The decision to let silence and the pangolin's own movements carry the emotional weight—rather than overlaying sentiment—is what transforms this from a PSA into something genuinely tender and alive.
