A worn-out cowboy in Malibu Canyon keeps having the same nightmare about a bleeding stranger on the roadside, and his Bible isn't helping. His granddaughter Ruby's arrival cracks open something hidden.

The scouts
Cowboys, Bibles, blood, and Malibu — a stack of cliches reassembled into something genuinely strange. Bonus points for the melodrama refusing to apologize for itself.
Malibu Canyon as Lynchian purgatory is the kind of formal gambit I respect — pulpy religious dread filtered through a King James in the glovebox. The west-coast-drifter atmospherics do most of the heavy lifting, and that's enough.
That Malibu Canyon nightmare-loop pulled off as pulpy fever-dream — Lynch-pilled, sure, but the religious imagery and the cowboy's bleeding-stranger ethical fork land harder than the comparison suggests. Western iconography crossbred with spiritual purgatory: rare to see this committed at NoBudge scale.
Reviews
Brimming with Lynchian atmosphere, Whittington's film is intriguing and melodramatic, built around two striking characters captured in vivid color.
