The scouts
Two pilgrims chasing truth until one gets pinned by a stare and the whole world starts melting into him—it's the kind of premise that could be pretentious garbage, but Meunier doesn't flinch from the weirdness, which is exactly why it works.
POURPRE situates itself deliberately within a lineage of metamorphic cinema—Švankmajer's animate surrealism, perhaps Tarkovsky's landscape-as-consciousness—and the formal discipline required to sustain a two-minute merge of figure and ground without kitsch speaks to considerable craft awareness.
The decision to hold the gaze—to let the other figure's attention do the work of transformation rather than cutting away or overlaying effects—is what turns a neat concept into something that actually lives in your body.
