Flying Nun and NZ on Air together is a specific cultural marker — this isn't a generic music video, it's a piece made inside a very particular national indie tradition, and Ward earns the Flying Nun association with the visual restraint he brings to it.
Flying Nun lineage and motion-capture animation. Pleasant. A polite music video that does what music videos do.
Simon Ward channels the Flying Nun lineage of understated melancholy and adds some formal invention; pleasant rather than essential, but the New Zealand indie-pop specificity earns its keep.
