Coixet's AR-crime premise wants to be subversive but plays it frustratingly straight—the device-modification twist is expected, and the moral reckoning lands like homework rather than provocation.
A formally composed meditation on technology and culpability that sits comfortably in the Spanish art-cinema tradition; the deliberate pacing and visual restraint recall Haneke's cooler register, though it doesn't quite achieve that tradition's depth.
The decision to leave Hugo's discovery ambiguous—to let the camera hold on his face without spelling out what he's found—transforms a premise that could've been hollow into something genuinely unsettling; that restraint is what makes it work.
