Tones: contemplative, darkly comic
One of those moments in which it seems nothing ever happens will be the start of a conversation between two neighbourhood friends who begin to realise how different their ways of seeing life are.

The title asks a question that already bores me—'what happens when nothing happens'—but then Ampuero-Ramos actually commits to it, turning suburban stasis into this weirdly uncomfortable reckoning about how two people can live next to each other and speak completely different languages. It shouldn't work, but the refusal to cut away or resolve anything is genuinely subversive.
There's a lineage here—the observational quietism of Koreeda, the tonal precision of early Haneke—and Ampuero-Ramos sits in that tradition with visible control, letting the almost-nothing accumulate into genuine philosophical dissonance through pure compositional and rhythmic discipline.
Three minutes to establish that two neighbors are living in entirely separate realities, and Ampuero-Ramos does it on what looks like a pocket budget by committing fully to a single choice: holding the frame while the conversation shatters the surface of an ordinary moment, letting performance and silence do the actual work instead of underlining it.
