The scouts
It's a love triangle where nobody actually fights—just a guy coming back to watch his friends be married and... accepting it. The subversion is so quiet it's almost invisible, which means it's either brilliant or it's just sad people standing around, and honestly I'm not sure the film knows which.
Two Spanish directors working in miniature, letting absence and return do the structural heavy lifting—this sits comfortably in that lineage of European minimalism (Haneke's restraint, Atanarjuat's spatial patience) where the real drama lives in what the camera refuses to linger on.
The entire film pivots on a single choice: shooting the reunion in soft, almost diffuse light that makes everyone look slightly ghosted, present but untethered—it's a formal decision that transmutes a conventional premise into something genuinely elegiac.
