Everyone expects sci-fi memory-heists to go maximalist and trippy, so watching Chowdhary refuse the spectacle and instead just... grind through the psychological wreckage of the job feels genuinely subversive—it's almost boring on purpose, which is exactly the move.
The film inherits the procedural rigor of hard sci-fi tradition while quietly positioning itself against the body-horror excess of Videodrome or Scanners; that restraint—letting dread accumulate through editing and performance rather than visual rupture—marks a considered lineage.
The breakthrough is the sound design layering fragmented audio from the victim's final moments over the detective's face: that single choice transforms the whole film from a concept into something physically felt, where we're not watching technology fail but watching a person absorb trauma through a medium.
