Refugium wants to be experimental but settles for the safe surrealism move—melancholic animation + skateboarding + childhood metaphor. It's competent and beautiful, which is exactly why I'm not interested.
Kammerer demonstrates considerable formal control in collapsing play and anxiety into a single visual language; the lineage here is clear—city-as-psychological-space, animation as introspection—and it's executed with the kind of restraint that reads as maturity.
The decision to let the skateboard itself become the logic of the composition—every line, every movement dictated by the board's geometry rather than imposed onto it—is what makes this work; everything else follows from that single formal commitment.
